Deep nasal inhale, slow exhale into a balloon. Clinically shown to raise SpO₂ from 95.7% to 98.1% (Misra et al., 2023). Builds expiratory control and diaphragm strength.

A 17–22 min Wim Hof breathing warm-up altered VO₂ consumption during incremental cycling, potentially facilitating endurance performance and reducing subjective strain in young athletes. Average heart rates trended lower in preceded stages.

In a randomised controlled trial, 5 minutes of cyclic sighing produced greater mood improvement and reduction in respiratory rate than mindfulness meditation. Exhale-focused breathing was most effective for stress management.

Repeated Valsalva-type pressure raises intrathoracic pressure, activates the respiratory muscle metaboreflex, and causes vasoconstriction in limb musculature — accelerating W′ depletion. Validates the Scream-Density Override Rule.
